We don’t let people speak about others behind their backs. Then we do evaluations after two months and then every six months to see where they’re at. We’ve spent time making sure our staff have good relationships so that they can tell each other and senior staff any problems. The person that has been disrespected will not be present. We believe that person is allowed to speak their case, not during the working hour, but the next day in a sit-down meeting with management. None of this behaviour is allowed, and immediate dismissal from the evening service will happen. Calling out problematic behaviour (such as racism, sexism or homophobia)… People do as they are shown, therefore we do not raise our voices or act in a disrespectful manner ourselves. When they are crossed it is easy to see where fault lays. We have rules agreed when you start, rules stating when and how we speak to each other which encourage respect. If not, then they have to write on the Swift thread that they got home safely. Then they’re not just sheep in a flock, but individuals with different ideas.Ĭo-owners Bobby Hiddleston & Mia Johansson BEHAVIOUR & PERSONAL SAFETY Getting home after a late shift…Ī lot of our staff travel home together. Someone else is really into whisky so Bobby sits with him every week, showing him how to buy from auctions, and so on. We have one guy who is now spending time with me on the side learning about marketing and branding. We try to figure out what their dreams are, and how we can help them with that. Personal or creative interests & personal development… We have the opportunity to build the careers of sixteen very talented people, and they have the opportunity to be part of a platform that will give them challenges. We respect them and make them feel part of the progression of the business. If someone just says that’s shit, they won’t want to make one again! Opportunities to progress… We make sure new starters have someone to learn from and are making drinks in front of someone more experienced, so that if they make it wrong, they’ll know for next time and won’t be scared. Everything is addressed on the night, out the back or after service. We don’t believe in slapping hands or making somebody feel stupid in front of guests. If there’s a review that mentions someone in particular, we’ll shout that out and say great job, or if we come in and see that the bar has been well cleaned, we’ll send a picture of it to the group saying well done. We have a Swift thread on Facebook Messenger. TRAINING, CAREER PROGRESSION & FEEDBACK Praise… They have staff food and they are more than welcome to have a staff beer after hours but most of the time they go home. When new staff members join, we make sure that someone senior takes them out for a drink. We work on people being friends and we have 3 staff parties a year. It’s so important to make people feel they are part of the bar, so that they’re not just working for a machine but contributing to building something. Can they open the door? Can they research a particular product for the menu? That way they get full credit for it and everyone knows that. The best way to keep staff is to make things very clear and to give them one specific routine or task that is just theirs. We hope we make everybody feel encouraged to apply for any role, but we hire on merit alone.Ī lot of our staff travel home together. We do not differentiate between age, gender or anything else. Long standing and/or returning staff…Ħ5% of the staff we started with are still with us. You can’t teach someone to have a good personality but I can teach them how to make drinks. They have often started a relationship with the staff already from drinking at the bar. We get fantastic CVs but we would rather hire someone more humble who doesn’t have accolades but is willing to learn. It is much more difficult to start on though, as VDJ is more beginners friendly. This one, however, does not have limitations when using it for public events. Traktor can compete with Virtual as it has as well a free program. Overall, at the moment, VDJ has a slight edge over Serato because of the recent updates. VDJ does work with more hardware than Serato, which gives it an advantage.Īlso, Virtual has a stronger streaming program than SDJ has. When compared, these programs are very similar with slight differences when you really get into them. One of the main problems is it does not have a free version to learn on. Serato DJ Pro is one of the alternatives for VirtualDJ. The company provides strong support should any issues arise through their forum and support services. A multi-directional sound connection is also needed to operate this application. Make sure to have 4 GB Ram minimum, and 200 MB free on your computer. IOS 10.8 and onward also can use it although this is the Windows version download. Although it works from Windows 7 and onwards, Windows 10 is the best OS. First off, it does not work with Linux, but it does with IOS and Windows. If using it, make sure your hardware can handle it. It has been thoroughly checked for viruses, and none have been found. It has been in existence for a long time. For times when you can't be in front of the computer, they allow you to play beats you have already recorded or use the intuitive automix that will continue playing similar music. This feature, along with the high-quality audio performance, means this software can be used professionally. You can create or customize from hundreds of performance pads. Naturally, within the app, it provides a strong ability to regulate and smartly store all your music in a variety of curated files Along with this, there is a cloud library with a catalog where you can get professional music including Soundcloud. For this, they have also added an intuitive event scheduler allowing you to control what saved files will stream when.įor getting music they have added Beatport streaming library services. Also, the app allows you to connect to live radios. One of the newest elements in Virtual’’s toolbox is the ability to stream directly to various sources like Facebook and Youtube whatever you are making. What are some of the features of VirtualDJ? For audio-only tracks, the application has visualization effects that stay in beat with the music. Furthermore, you are also able to do 4k and HD video mixing. Once you download VirtualDJ on your device, you can sync it to any of your other devices that you have the application downloaded. Over three hundred DJ controllers can be used with VDJ. In the attempt to make sure you can play anywhere you go, VDJ is able to synchronize with most hardware especially Pioneer, Numark, Reloop, Denon, Hercules, Rane and so on. They do allow you to customize this with their emphasis on customization and even have a day mode that has more color, so it is easier to use when using this outside. Now the interface is intuitive and easy to use to find the key elements of mixing. With their newest editions, they have brought a modern feel to the interface and de-cluttered the screen. There are many things that you can do in mixing music, and VirtualDJ always had the problem of too many options in a cluttered interface. One of the things they have improved is their user interface. However, there are so many options in helping you do that. VirtualDJ does a variety of things, but all it does is essentially helping you to mix your music. This focus does mean that while you will have a great variety of things to do, the VDJ isn’t going to do them as well as some of their competition like Serato. One of the things that is different from the other software is the fact that VDJ has a heavy emphasis on new features. It's very nice for using together with complex industry sets like FIRS or ECS. It makes the algorithm for station ratings more lenient and less dependent on vehicle speed. One way of automating this is to 'downgrade' (using autoreplace) your vehicles to the 2nd best engine at the end of each year, then upgrade it to the best engine for next year, and keep cycling. So this involves manually sending each train to the depot and rebuying it at the end of every year. Unfortunately this cannot be automated (the autorenew option only works at 1 year before max age).

The story mode has five chapters with a whopping 130 events to compete in. But the colour of your car doesn’t mean anything if you can’t drive it like a boss! It’s just when you’re trying to think of your next purchase or unlock a new colour scheme, the excessive shine really did affect my choices with me swaying towards matte and bland colours. In-game you’re too focused on the driving to notice the shine, and the cars look really good on track. My only gripe in the early stages was how shiny the cars are in the preview and livery sections. I can only tell you about my experiences. I haven’t experienced gameplay on an Xbox One X before, so I assume there would be less of a difference in performance between playing Dirt 5 on the One X and Series X. But there is a substantial difference in performance when I switch over to the Xbox Series X. For the first time in my years of gaming on the Xbox One, a game has started to push the limits of the seven year old console.ĭon’t get me wrong, I can and still do play Dirt 5 on my original Xbox One, and I especially love just doing 1 or 2 races when my daughters are getting ready for dinner or at bath time. I switched over to the Xbox Series X and the game ran fantastically, smooth as butter, and I could control the car on the first race so much better. Jumping into the driver’s seat for my first race, it drove relatively smoothly but the scenery was slightly jolty, and turning corners felt ever so sluggish to the point I was sliding out often. Having only ever had the original Xbox One and not experienced the Xbox One S or X, i fired it up for the first time and straight away noticed a bit of screen tearing and slightly janky framerate in the introduction video. I first received a review copy of the game in the lead up to the launch of the Xbox Series X. The big question is whether the offensive line - a shattered mess a year ago - bounces back to help the attack sing. Third-rounder Josh Downs is a nice fit at wideout. I expect the freaky first-rounder to start the opener barring a setback. Rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson is already splitting first-team snaps with Gardner Minshew at OTAs. Unlike the last guy, new Colts coach Shane Steichen won’t be saddled with an eleventh-hour Matt Ryan under center. The club is suspect at wideout, but third-rounder Tank Dell brings speed, while 2022 second-rounder John Metchie III rejoins the mix after missing his rookie campaign while overcoming leukemia. After back-to-back one-and-done coaching staffs, I sense Houston has something special in Ryans. gives newly minted head coach DeMeco Ryans a centerpiece to build around for years to come. Stroud brings hope under center for the Texans, while first-round edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. The Lions boast one of the conference’s nastier rosters.Ī pair of unwatchable entities a year ago, Houston and Indy will stroll into September as revived operations - if the draft picks pan out.Ĭ.J. He won’t be needed anytime soon if Jared Goff picks up where he left off. With an eye toward tomorrow, the Lions also grabbed quarterback Hendon Hooker out of Tennessee in the third round. Much-needed help at safety was added via second-rounder Brian Branch and ball-hawking free-agent pickup C.J. With second-year wideout Jameson Williams suspended for the first six games of the season, LaPorta’s in line for meaningful snaps out of the gate. by a wide margin" at rookie minicamp, lining up all over the place and setting fires after the catch. He was reportedly the " best player on the field. Fellow first-rounder Jack Campbell is a plug-and-play addition at linebacker, while tight end Sam LaPorta out of Iowa is already making waves. Jahmyr Gibbs looms as a backfield fascination beside free-agent signee David Montgomery. Cincinnati still stares through a Super Bowl window.ĭetroit’s draft was nitpicked out of the gate, but the overall haul brought a bundle of immediate starters. to take over as Joe Burrow’s blindside protector. They were tasked with fewer to-dos, but pulled off a coup in landing Orlando Brown Jr. The loaded Bengals roll into camp with a flock of familiar faces on offense. The son of a franchise fire-starter, Porter belonged in Pittsburgh and pairs nicely with free-agent pickup Patrick Peterson. I adore the Steelers grabbing cover man Joey Porter Jr. They found Kenny Pickett’s new left tackle in first-rounder Broderick Jones out of Georgia - Pittsburgh hadn’t snatched a first-round bookend since Jamain Stephens in 1996. I view the Steelers as an under-the-radar heavy in the AFC. Throwing for 6,000 yards is lunacy, but there’s no excuse for Lamar not to shine. With his contractual drama in the rearview mirror, Lamar Jackson - armed with a new play-caller in Todd Monken - has plenty of weapons in a post-Greg Roman universe. Long known for their rough-and-tumble defense, this year’s Ravens squad arrives as an amped-up offering on offense thanks to the addition of Odell Beckham Jr. Unfortunately for the Browns, each of their division rivals made gains, too. Lost for eons in a thicket of dark chaos, Jets fans today stare at a ready-to-roll roster. It’s easy to trust high-energy coach Robert Saleh to milk another punishing campaign from his defensive charges. I’m operating under the assumption that his radioactive flameout in Denver had more to do with Russell Wilson and the time-tested Peter principle than a true La Reveal Magnifico.Ī playoff-caliber defense added power to its pass-rushing room with the drafting of first-rounder Will McDonald IV out of Iowa State. There’s a fair amount of pressure on new play-caller Nathaniel Hackett to flawlessly man the motherboard. New York sweetened the pot by adding former Rodgers castmates Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb to the mix. I dig the concept of a revenge-fueled Aa-Rod flinging passes to Garrett Wilson with a back-from-injury Breece Hall rumbling out of the backfield. Perhaps it’s a one-year rental, but Rodgers waltzes into a promising situation. General manager Joe Douglas never blinked during the club’s elongated pursuit of the four-time MVP. Fifteen years, we now have 3,000 official Suicide Girls from every continent including Antarctica. I thought it'd be popular in Portland, maybe Seattle. I wanted to give them a place where they could shine, where they could be themselves, where they could be appreciated for their own beauty and uniqueness. I saw all these beautiful women around me, and none of them were reflected anywhere in society. There was either the stick-thin body type or like the silicon-enhanced blonde Pamela Anderson type. I wanted to create a place where girls can express themselves, feel comfortable being uniquely themselves and being beautiful, and embrace their bodies, because the definition of beauty was so limited in 2001. What was your original vision for SuicideGirls? And then about me personally in relation to SuicideGirls, people think I can be a little bit harsh, but I'm really sweet and nice and friendly. Most people think that it's just about nudity and naked pin-up pictures, but it's really about the community and the friendships that they make. Missy Suicide: If you ask any girl what their favorite part about being a SuicideGirl is, she's going to say the friendships that she made. In between rehearsals, Missy sat down with Broadly to discuss their new 60-date burlesque tour, how she survived the mid-2000s, and why she got the last laugh over the feminists who hated her.īROADLY: What's the biggest misunderstanding about SuicideGirls? Today, the site attracts over five million users, according to Racked, and is staffed by ten employees. While other 2007 stars, like Chris Crocker, have faded into obscurity as YouTubers profit off the schtick he developed, SuicideGirls has survived. Feminists questioned if women posting their own nude photos counted as exploitation, and in 2005, Racked reports, the US Department of Justice asked the site to take down pictures that could be considered obscene. Girls posted nude pin-up photos, highlighting their tattoos, and the site attracted the ire of both feminists and the Bush administration. Missy and Suhul created SuicideGirls as an online community for the girls they idolized and identified with. Feminists also stayed away from discussions about sex and body positivity. She idolized girls with tattoos, but found that many of them wouldn't classify themselves as beautiful. She grew up in Beaverton, Oregon near the Nike headquarters and struggled to fit in with the jocks around town. Oregon-native Missy Suicide founded the site in her apartment in Portland with her friend Sean Suhl, a.k.a. She is the author of John Dee’s Conversations with Angels and The Jewel House: Elizabethan London and the Scientific Revolution, as well as the All Souls Trilogy, originally published by Viking Press for Penguin Books. Deborah Harkness is a teaching professor of history at the University of Southern California. We asked Harkness to join us on Shakespeare Unlimited to talk about how her research influenced her fiction writing and to tell us about how witches, demons, and the supernatural were perceived in Shakespeare’s England.ĭr. The show comes to AMC and BBC America on April 7. The novel is now a television series starring Teresa Palmer and Matthew Goode. Harkness’s idea became A Discovery of Witches, the first book of her All Souls Trilogy. About fourteen years later, she had an idea for a story: a historian-who turns out to be a witch-discovers a lost and much-coveted manuscript that thrusts her into a world of vampires, demons, and magic. In 1994, Deborah Harkness was doing research at Oxford University’s Bodleian Library when she stumbled across the Book of Soyga, a long-lost manuscript treatise on magic that once belonged to Elizabethan scientist and occult philosopher John Dee. |
